Muslim Spiritual Care in Swiss Prisons- Towards Sustainable Institutional Recognition

Dr. Mohamad Khir Alwazir is a Syrian-Swiss scholar and university professor specializing in Islamic law, constitutional law, and the human sciences, with over twenty years of experience in spiritual care, interfaith dialogue, and peacebuilding.

He holds four doctoral degrees in Islamic jurisprudence, constitutional law, human sciences, and Muslim spiritual accompaniment in public institutions from the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, where he produced a pioneering study on Muslim spiritual care in Switzerland: practices, challenges, and prospects for institutional recognition.

Dr. Al-Wazir serves as Co-Director of PoSH (Pouls pour des Solutions Humaines) in Geneva and previously worked for over seven years as a peacebuilding and interfaith dialogue consultant at the World Council of Churches. He is also an Assistant Professor at MEDIU University (Malaysia) and a member of the Groupement Romand d’Études des Addictions (GREA) in Switzerland.

Honored by the Arab Translators Association and several academic and humanitarian bodies, he is the author of notable works including “On the Violence of Authority and the Violence of Society” (2024) and “The Shining Pearls: A Commentary on al-Waraqat” (2024).

His career bridges scholarship and compassion, promoting human dignity through dialogue, attentive presence, and the pursuit of meaning.
